New Nomad Photographer Website Launch

By Logan Brown
September 4, 2025

Hello and welcome to the Nomad Photographer website. I want to introduce you to the second major overhaul for the website since it launched way back in 2014. This is the biggest change my brand has undergone since I started and I could not be more thrilled to share it with you.

Where We’ve Been

This site has been a labor of love for me since I first started planning my escape from the daily grind more than a decade ago! My first year of travel saw me visit 20+ countries and bounced me from Oceania, to Asia, Europe, and back to Asia. That year I was really good about writing here often and but then over the years since, my posts here have been in fits and starts. Five years ago, I refreshed the original site with a fresh coat of paint, a couple new features, but it ran the same core code under the hood.

Around that same time, I like everyone else in 2020, found myself in a lurch – back home for the first time in years. My father was ill and my family came together to spend that last year all together while also struggling through the pandemic. The following year I joined Sigla Creative, a social impact marketing company that took up pretty much all of my free time that I had been using to write here. But every once in awhile I found time to write some great stories like Acatenango and the Mountain on Fire and Cartagena Colombia: The Perfect 3-Day Weekend.

Ten Years on the Road

That brings us to today – well about 8 months ago – when I started writing this new version of Nomad Photographer. I knew I wanted to rewrite the entire site from scratch bringing it up to speed with the newest web technologies under the hood. My goal with Nomad Photographer is to make it the most beautiful and informative travel blog on the internet, a big goal, but I think I am on my way.

I say this every couple of years, but the plan is to get much more regular with my posting. And having additional writers join me, has started keeping me honest. Miranda Miller is the first to join as a contributor and I hope to recruit others as well. Be sure to check out her first posts that will be going live with the site launch: Top Ethical Elephant Sanctuaries in Thailand and Best Koh Tao Remote Work Cafes. We have a content calendar throughout the next few months and are launching the site with 7 new articles not previously released on the old site.

New: Inside the Shot

Also launching on the third generation of Nomad Photographer, will be a new series we are calling Inside the Shot. This post collection, will feature stories behind the most iconic shots we have captured from our travels. Inside the Shot will also highlight the technical details, GPS locations of our favorite photo spots and how readers can reproduce their own award-winning travel photos.

Metadata like this will be a part of every Inside the Shot post, so you can learn more how we create our epic images!

Updated: NomadTrails

Our original content series NomadTrails has received a big usability update in the new website design. We are introducing live GPX trail data to our series on the best runs, walks, and hikes that the team from Nomad Photographer tries out on our travels. These maps are live, interactive, and downloadable so that you can try them out yourselves!

Check out our updates to fan favorites like Running the Ancient Trails of Sifnos and Acatenango and the Mountain on Fire. Eight more NomadTrails posts are scheduled between now and the end of the year! We hope you enjoy exploring them as much as we have enjoyed the treks!

Updated: Destination Travel Guides

Next up are our redesigned Destination Travel Guides. These in depth continent, regional, and country pages tell our favorite sights, times to visit, average costs, recent posts, and our favorite photos from each. Each page is now better than ever before with more helpful data to answer as many of your travel queries as possible. Check out the Destinations menu to see a full list of our guides by continent or visit the Destinations archive page to see them by category.

New: Travel Gear and Trip Planning Resources

Next get inspired with road-tested, reliable, and fun photo and backpacking gear on the new Travel Gear page and check out the Travel Resources page for our favorite travel sites for accommodation, flights, tours, transportation and more. These links are often affiliate links that keep the lights on at Nomad Photographer at no additional cost to you the reader. But we only ever recommend gear and services we use on the road!

We often get asked what gear we use for photography and travel and now we have a place to share our recommendations.

Coming Soon: Digital Content and Print Shop

Later this year, we are planning to launch the first online shop for the Nomad Photographer website. This store will feature 3 main types of products: art prints of our beautiful travel photography, city guide digital downloads, and curated private Google Maps guides to our favorite destinations. We are excited to bring these new products to our readers and we look forward to previewing these more in the coming months!

Site Speed and Design

The site is faster than ever before while doing a better job of featuring my photography and our team’s storytelling. You should find that the site loads in a second or two max, is fully optimized for mobile devices, and looks great everywhere. We also took great efforts to make sure the site is full accessible for any of our visitors using screen readers or other assistive devices.

We hope you enjoy the new Nomad Photographer website as much as we have enjoyed building it. If you have a favorite new feature let us know and if there is anything we can do to improve the overall experience for our visitors, please drop us a note in the comments!
