Several boats are silhouetted against a vibrant sunrise over a calm ocean, with clouds streaked in shades of orange, yellow, and blue.
Koh Tao sunset
Every day on Koh Tao ends with fire-red and orange sunsets.

Over the last three weeks, I have been chilling and living the island life on Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. This small island is world-renowned for its fantastic diving and in fact certifies more divers every year than any other location in the world.

I’ve found my daily routine to be a great and stress free existence. My usual day consists of a morning donut from the donut man, two morning dives, lunch at one of the great Thai food places along the beach road, two more dives in the afternoon, then watching the sun set at the dive shop bar while drinking a couple beers before walking along the beach road lined by its many restaurants looking for one for dinner that strikes my fancy.

All the while these kind of days cost me $117 with the four dives or $22 without. That kind of budget is very doable. Now to only figure out how to afford to stay here long term…
